Concert: Madness

Madness came to Seattle Sat, Sept 24th during their tour for their new album (show was at the Fenix).  It has been a long time since anyone has heard anything new from this group, so I was really excited about seeing them live.  I never did get to see them in their prime, but this show made up for that.  They started the show with One Step Beyond and then proceeded to play many songs from their new album, most of which I had not yet had a chance to hear.  The sound was awesome as they still made sure to have the necessary instruments represented, drums, bass, guitar, keyboard, 2 saxophones, trumpet, and a trumbone.  They made sure to mix in a few old favorites like Night Boat to Cairo and House of Fun, It Must be Love, and when they played Our House, the crowd of course went wild.  The band was really cool with the crowd in this intimate venue making sure to make comments about their wardrobe (many came in proper ska attire) and even allowed a few dancers on stage at the end.  Speaking of the end, the band of course came out for an encore, but even more surpising came out for a second encore, although for just a fun ska jam session (not a recognizable song).  Another surprise was our own local celebrity, one of the original members of the Specials (sorry, I’ve even met him but can’t remember his name), who came out on stage to play several tunes with the band (guitar and vocals).  What a show!  Hope you saw it too since my pics didn’t really turn out well enough to display. 😉
